To all those crying for a simplified taxt code: We translate that as [insert whine here] "The government makes it soooooo complicated to keep more of what is mine."
I did my taxes today. And it was complictated. Well...it was as complicated as answering a bunch of 'Yes' or "No' questions. And the under-employed have it even more complicated - the 1040-EZ is almost an entire page if you count the name, address and soc sec number. [Insert ironic tone here] Yeah...that calls for simplification.
Actually, the call for simplification is called loudest by those that are looking to hide/offset/disguise their earnings from the gov'ment. I found today's exercise rather rewarding. I pay taxes every paycheck. At the end of the year, I get a little bit back. For those wanks earning six figures and calling for a simplified tax code I say, "If you weren't trying to cheat the system, the tax code is really quite simple."
For me 4/15 is like another birthday. It's not a moment to kvetch about how much money I give the government. In fact, it's a chance to feel proud that I gave our governemt a few thousand dollars and they turned around and said, "Yeah, we didn't need all that. Here's some back."
So, on this moment of tax reflection, I say enjoy. Pay your taxes throughout the year and get a little back at the end of the process. For those that want more of a refund or don't want to spend an hour at the end of the year with a calculator and some receipts, I say, "tough...quit being selfish and do your civic duty."
